How Vinted fees are calculated
On Vinted, private sellers pay no commission on their sales: Vinted's help centre says so plainly, you get the price you set. There are still fees, but the buyer pays them, as the Buyer Protection fee.
The official price list gives the usual formula: 5% of the item or bundle price, plus a fixed €0.70, VAT included. On top of that comes shipping for the chosen delivery option, plus any paid extras on the buyer's side, such as item verification. This calculator applies exactly that formula and rounds to the cent.
Vinted notes that the amount can depend on the item, the order value and the order type. So read the result as a reliable estimate for the standard case: the figure that counts is the one the buyer sees at checkout.
Worked examples
A €5 T-shirt: 5% of €5 is €0.25, plus €0.70, so €0.95 in Buyer Protection. The buyer pays €5.95 before shipping and you receive €5. The fee comes to 19% of the item price.
A pair of jeans at €25: €1.25 plus €0.70, so €1.95 in fees. Buyer total: €26.95 before shipping. You get €25.
A €50 jacket: €2.50 plus €0.70, so €3.20 in fees and €53.20 for the buyer before shipping. The fee drops to 6.4% of the price.
The fixed €0.70 weighs heavily on cheap items. That's one reason bundles sell well: for three €5 items sold together at €15, the buyer pays €1.45 in fees once, instead of €0.95 three times, which would come to €2.85.
What it means for you as a seller
Because you receive the listed price, the fees don't eat into your margin directly. They shape the buyer's decision instead: buyers compare the total, protection and shipping included, with other listings. A €20 item really costs them €21.70 before shipping. When you set your price, think about what the buyer pays, not just your listing price.
The real question is the starting price: too high and the item just sits there, too low and you leave money on the table. To see what you actually make once your purchase price and extra costs are taken off, use the Vinted profit calculator.
Common mistakes
Thinking Vinted takes a cut from sellers. For private sellers it doesn't: if your balance shows less than expected, check whether you paid for an option to promote your items.
Forgetting the fee when you buy to resell. If you source on Vinted, the 5% + €0.70 is added to your purchase price: an item bought for €15 costs you €16.45 before shipping. It's the line many resellers leave out of their margin maths.
Mixing up shipping and protection. Shipping depends on the carrier, parcel size and country, and Vinted shows it at checkout. It isn't part of Buyer Protection, which is why the calculator lets you enter it separately.
Relying on an old screenshot. Platform fees change: the date the formula was checked is shown under the calculator, and the official price list remains the reference.
Vinted fees: frequently asked questions
What fees does a Vinted seller pay?
None if you're a private seller: Vinted takes no commission on your sales and you receive the price you set. Only the options you choose to promote your items are paid.
How is the Vinted Buyer Protection fee calculated?
According to the official price list, it's usually 5% of the item or bundle price plus €0.70, VAT included. The buyer pays it on top of the item price and shipping.
How much does the buyer pay for a €10 item?
€10 for the item plus €1.20 in Buyer Protection (€0.50 + €0.70), so €11.20, plus shipping for the chosen delivery option.
Is shipping included in the calculation?
No, it's separate: it depends on the carrier, parcel size and country, and Vinted shows it at checkout. Enter it in the Shipping field to get the exact total the buyer pays.
Why does Vinted sometimes show a different amount?
Vinted presents 5% + €0.70 as the usual formula and says fees can vary with the item and the order type. The amount shown at checkout always prevails; the calculator covers the standard case.
